Pearl Plastering

Interior Plastering

Plaster Repairs in Bournemouth and Dorset.

Patch repairs that disappear once the decorator’s rolled it. Hollow patch, door-handle hole, ceiling bubbling from last winter’s leak. Most of it doesn’t need a full replaster. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you straight.

Not Every Wall Needs a Full Replaster

You have got a crack running down the hallway. Or a patch of plaster that sounds hollow when you tap it. Maybe the kids put a door handle through the wall, or a leak from upstairs left the ceiling bubbling. It looks bad, but it does not always mean stripping the whole room.

We repair plaster every week across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. Patch repairs, crack stitching, cutting out blown sections, damp damage reinstatement. The goal is simple: the repair disappears once painted. No ridges, no visible edges, no ghosting through the finish.

Bournemouth has a lot of period properties. Edwardian and Victorian houses in Winton, Charminster and Westbourne with original lime plaster that needs a different approach to modern gypsum. We know the difference and use the right materials for each.

When to Repair vs When to Replaster

If the damage covers less than about 40 percent of a wall, a patch repair is usually the right call. It is faster, cheaper and less disruptive. But if more than half the wall sounds hollow, or the plaster is crumbling in several places, a full replaster and skim gives a better long-term result. We will tell you honestly which one makes sense.

For damage caused by leaks or damp, we also work with external rendering to fix the source of the problem, not just the symptom inside.

What we repair

Common plaster problems we fix every week.

Blown Plaster

That hollow sound when you tap the wall? The plaster has lost its grip on the masonry behind. We cut out the failed area, key the background, apply fresh base coat and skim flat.

Cracks & Settlement

Hairline cracks from shrinkage, deeper cracks from building movement. We open the crack, fill with the correct compound, tape if needed, and skim over for an invisible repair.

Damp Damage

Water stains, bubbling, soft crumbly plaster. We strip back to sound material, treat the background, let it dry properly, and replaster. No point skimming over damp, it comes back.

Insurance Work

Flood damage, fire damage, escape of water. We provide full documentation for your insurer and can liaise with loss adjusters directly. Itemised quotes and photo records included.

Plaster Repair FAQs

Tap the wall with your knuckles. Solid plaster sounds firm and dull. Blown plaster sounds hollow, like tapping a drum. You may also see hairline cracks, bubbling or areas where the plaster feels soft or crumbly. Blown plaster has lost its bond with the wall behind it and needs cutting out and replacing.

Yes. If the damage is limited to a specific area, we cut out the failed section, apply a fresh base coat, and skim to match the surrounding surface. The repair blends in once painted. If more than about 40 percent of a wall is damaged, a full replaster is usually more cost-effective and gives a better finish.

Yes. We work with insurers and loss adjusters on flood damage, fire damage and escape of water claims. We provide itemised quotes, photo records and completion documentation for your claim. We can also liaise directly with your insurer if that makes things easier.

The most common causes are building settlement, thermal movement, vibration from traffic or nearby construction, and damp. Hairline cracks in newer plaster are often just shrinkage and can be filled. Wider cracks or recurring cracks usually indicate movement and need proper investigation before repair.
